Why doesn't a 20% CTC hike mean 20% more take-home?
Income tax is slab-based, so once your taxable income is above the ₹12L zero-tax threshold, a larger share of every extra rupee is taxed — which usually means your take-home grows by a smaller percentage than your CTC. If both your current and new CTC stay under that threshold, tax doesn't apply either way, so your take-home can grow by roughly the same percentage as your CTC (or even slightly more, since fixed costs like professional tax shrink as a share of a bigger salary). There's no single fixed ratio — run your own numbers above rather than assuming a rule of thumb.
